Igorot dance

I wish I could dance as others do.

Some do it through a song, some do it through a poem, some do it through play...

How can I do it?

Height of Poverty in the Philippines

Every Filipino is envious of Manny Pacquiao's fortune. The news about Manny's financial gain every time he gets into a tournament makes every Filipino wish for the same fate.

While Manny makes a million dollar looks like it is a penny, several Filipinos are ready to die just so they can earn enough for a day's meal. Several are hoping that they can be next Manny Pacquiao's face-off in the ring. Never mind if Manny gets their faces black and blue, never mind if Manny would knock them down, never mind if they are not given the same amount of dollars as Marquez, Cotto, Morales and the like. A thousand dollars can make them live better.

Many are saying, please!!!, let me be the next subject of Manny Pacquiao in that boxing ring and pay me a few thousand dollars.

Is it possible?

Brilliant idea arising from a teacher's remark.

Mentor: I really hope that you will consider taking our lessons seriously.
You have not been performing well in the previous examinations.

Students: (Very quiet)

Mentor: Where are your minds?

Students: (Still quiet staring blankly on the board."

Mentor: Is it because you are aware that there will be shortage in rice supply in about five years in our country due to the overpopulation problem, so, rather than learning programming you want to head back home in the countryside and start to learn farming instead?

Okay! Let's continue with our lessons.

We will try to do more programs.

Let us write a program for checking whether a string is a palindrome or not.

Do you know what a palindrome is?

Students: (Still very quiet)

Mentor:
A palindrome is a string ( or a sequence of letters ) that reads the same when you read from left to right as when you read from right to left.

Will you check your name, is it a palindrome? If your name is ANA, then your name is a palindrome.

Student: I have another example of a palindrome.

Mentor: Great! What is it?

Student; NASABAYABASAN

Mentor. I knew it! Your mind is really in the country side. Kidding aside, NASABAYABASAN is in fact a palindrome. Is it not, class.

Students: Almost everyone happily said. Yes sir!

Mentors' reflection:
August is guava season in the Philippines and it's the time for kids to frequent the outskirts where guava's are. NASABAYABASAN, which literally translates to "in the guava plantation area" is a perfect example of a palindrome from a kid who is putting theory in sync with his/her experience.

Reality-Based Joke On My shelf

Teacher: I have an announcement to make.
Students: Yes sir!
Teacher: I have disregarded the examination that you have a taken last week.
Students; Why sir?
Teacher: Every paper manifested that there was leakage...
Students: Of course not, sir!
Teacher: It is! All papers were wet and dilapidated because water leaked from the ceiling of the office. There was a strong typhoon, remember?

August 28 2011 Diary

August 28, 2011: Despite a very strong rain coupled with irreversible wind aggravated by flash floods in some neighborhood and road cuts along some routes, work was not cancelled at my work place. Thank God, He touched the hearts of those in the administration in the afternoon. No work from 1PM. Quite late!

Ironically, a few days before the life threatening typhoon, the administration issued a memorandum reminding every member of the institution about "safety" procedures. This made several gave the remark "May safety-safety nalalaman ang administration pero sa oras na kailangan gumawa ng hakbang para sa ika-sa-safety ng mga tao, salungat naman ang mga pangyayari dulot ng kanilang mga desisyon." Well, thank God pa rin, nothing bad happened aside from the WET experience. Blame it to the fact that we are just laborers. We need to work as instructed by the lords.

La Trinidad From Atop

Pictures of La Trinidad Valley and Kalugong

These photographs are very telling of what is La Trinidad nowadays.

La Trinidad Benguet

I have a strong feeling that La Trinidad Benguet is once under water. I trek to a site that made me get a top view of La Trinidad. The mountain is called Kalugong. It is a seat to rock formations. The Rock formations seem to model creatures living under water. I saw rocks mimicking crocodiles, sea lions and Hippopotamus. Dinosaurs figures are also observable. If you look closely at the rocks, they seem to have come from under water.
